Readers pick Civic Taproom as Portland’s best beer bar

With this month’s rollout of our second-annual Bar Tab, The Oregonian/OregonLive is calling for bar nominations in a number of categories. We kicked off last week with readers’ favorite Portland happy hours. This week, we asked for your favorite beer bars.

So, what makes a great beer bar?

Civic Pic

Essentially, that’s the question we asked last week, when we asked readers to nominate their favorite Portland-area beer bars for our latest poll.

After nearly 5,000 votes, our readers have spoken, picking downtown Portland’s The Civic Taproom & Bottle Shop as their No. 1 local beer bar with over 1,300 votes. See below for our readers top 13 local beer bars (that’s all the bars that received 100 votes or more), then see how we ranked our favorites last year.

The Civic Taproom Review from New School Beer

New School Beer is the first media outlet to cover The Civic opening its doors. On Friday, Dec 5, New School posted their review of The Civic Taproom and Bottle Shop. The Civic Taproom review was positive and you can read the whole thing here.

“While beer does take up the majority of the focus I was surprised/impressed to find 6 taps with cider and 4 with wines so they can really please a broader audience.”

New School was impressed by our selection of brew and the fact that even though we’re in walking distance of Providence Park, there are still several TVs on which to watch a game. Read more

Best New Bar?

We certainly hope so! Last week Oregonlive held a poll asking readers to vote for their best bar. Among them were some of our favorites, including Multnomah Whiskey Library and Angel Face. It turns out readers are especially excited about The Civic because, although we weren’t listed in the voting, we achieved a strong write-in campaign. Here’s what Oregonlive said:

Watching the votes coming in throughout the week, we initially were headed for a bit of a surprise: the leading bar for several days, The Civic Taproom & Bottle Shop, just began construction on the space Oct. 28 (2014).

Stay tuned for an opening date so we can make another run for the Best New Bar title next year once we’re actually open!

Special Preview Weekend

We’re so excited to announce that The Civic Taproom and Bottle Shop is now offering a Special Preview Weekend!! Come on down and have a drink. We have 12 beers, 6 ciders, and 4 wines on tap. Also, did we mention we have eight doors full bottles from all over the world?!  We are located right next to Providence Park at 621 SW 19th Ave just south of W Burnside.

We would like to thank Pacific Crest Construction for getting our taproom finished and looking great. They worked day and night to make sure we were ready for our preview weekend. It was amazing to see the transformation in just three and a half weeks.
